Looks Matter in Job Interviews

Danny Devito is a rare breed. If you look at actors and singers and dancers and politicians and other "celebrities" and "entertainers", they look great. In fact, good looks are massively overstated in the careers and situations that people are called upon to see.

Not surprisingly, people prefer to see people who look good rather than strangers.

So when you're ready to do it, you should look your best. For most people, the most important performance they have ever had is in a job interview. The resumes are under scrutiny and it is a matter of choosing the top 2 or top 3 or top 10 candidates.

And look at things.

In most cases, it doesn't seem to be the only factor or key factor. But hiring entrepreneurs' instincts about someone and to what extent they fit in, how hard they work, how honest they are - the gut instinct is a big moment. And this is where it looks.

"When one is perceived as attractive, they are often considered to have some positive social features and greater intelligence," according to Carl Senior and Michael J.R. Butler, author of a study published by the Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences. "This is known as the 'halo effect' and has previously been shown to influence work interview results."

The study specifically looked at face disabilities: "Discrimination Against Applicants Appearing in Interviews: Eyewitness and Future Research" The study was published in the Journal of Applied Psychology. It has been found that people with disabilities face a statistically lower chance of landing a job than people with disabilities.

What types of disability can hinder your job interview?

Any annoying things that might make the interviewer go down, albeit consciously.

• Scars


• One acne


• Birth mark


• Burn marks


• Face jewelry

So it's not just picking the most beautiful of the three candidates. That may happen, and it may. But if a person's face is disturbed, it has a strong effect. If the interviewer's attention is directed towards the mole or the injured, not your eyes and smile - and what you say! - it does some unpleasant things:

• It lowers your power to win interviews, disturbed by your smile, your eyes, and your message.


• It makes you annoying to look at. If someone finds irritation in you, it does not create the positive effect you want


• It may make the interviewee wonder if the company could lose customers by creating a negative impression or causing the customer to go elsewhere (more fun and less annoying).

The best step is to remove the face jewelry before heading to the interview. Save any "interesting" accessories - this means what most people will find interesting, not just what you find interesting in your social circle - and get it out of your face. Even your hair - make sure it doesn't blur your eyes.

Use makeup as much as possible to neutralize any natural or accidental defects, such as mites, scars and burn marks. Every great actor uses make-up before the stage or in front of the camera. For your great performance, take tips from them.

You won't go to work interviews wearing jeans. Pay as much attention to your face as you do to your clothes. You will be judged based on your appearance, and you will be negatively judged if you have a disturbing flaw that stole the show.
