It's no surprise that it takes more than one article to dispel the most popular myths about skin care. After all the common knowledge is very common and spread like wildfire, too bad is not true. We will see more myths that everyone knows about skin care that not many people know is false.
1. Higher SPF means you get more protection. Usually sun protection in SPF 15, 30 and 50. SPF means Sun Protection Factor here. So logically you think that SPF 50 means more than three protections from SPF 15. The active ingredients in SPF 15 sun block 95% 95% UVA and UVB radiation, in your SPF 50, will find 98% blocked. What really means to a sun block bottle is that in a sun block with SPF 15 you can stay in the sun for fifteen times the amount you would normally do without the sun damaging your skin. Typically skinned people can stay in the sun for about ten minutes without sun damage, give it fifteen and you get an hour and thirty minutes of your SPF 15 and so on with a stronger concentration.
2. Related Myths - You don't need sunscreen if your makeup has SPF in it. Wrong! You need to lay seven layers to get the same protection from sun block lotions with SPF 15.
3. Here's a dangerous one - a white / acne head that appears to get rid of the pus inside it is a good idea. Sure the acne is no longer on your face and the pus on the surface is gone but all you have to do is squeeze all the deeper infections into your skin which will make it harder for your body to get rid of it. In addition, the zit still leaves you with a red mark on your face that still needs healing.
4. Acne scars, sun spots and other skin shades will disappear on their own. This is one of the true myths and it is even worse because it can take months, maybe even a few years, for the skin to fade and even be invincible. Your best bet is to be proactive in this area, looking for products containing alpha-hydroxy acids to get rid of scars from sitting comfortably and hoping they will disappear.
