Rhinoplasty: What Happens After Surgery?

Rhinoplasty is one of the top three surgical procedures in Australia, according to a study by the International Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS). This type of cosmetic surgery, also known as nasal work, seems to be a favorite among Australians, as well as eyelid surgery and breast enlargement.
Although nose job is usually a very simple procedure, which can be completed in a few hours, you usually have a long recovery phase. This phase of recovery, if not handled properly, can undo the beneficial aspects you have achieved from surgery.
To ensure the best results, you need to be well informed about what happened during the recovery phase and what you should do and not do:
I. You will come from surgery with a nose bandage
When you get out of surgery, you will always have some form of covering on your nose. These can be nose wraps or surgical splints. At this point, your nose will be slightly fine, following the surgical incision; Therefore, it requires support. The protection is also useful in maintaining your nose frame.
ii. Minor Bleeding During Recovery Is Normal
Although the surgery went well, you were still bleeding during recovery. This usually lasts for several weeks, usually accompanied by a stuffy nose. Therefore, you will be given a nose pack to control such bleeding. Of course, if you have excessive bleeding, you should quickly check back with your surgeon.
iii. Inflammation Is Normal
You can't expect to see the results once you leave the operating table, especially since your nose will have inflammation or even bruises. Fortunately, this will decline after a few days or two weeks in some cases.
The extent to which any swelling will be affected will be influenced by the type of surgical technique used. If your surgery involves a closed technique, you can expect swelling to disappear in just two weeks. Instead, it takes four weeks for any swelling to stop if you have open surgery.
iv. Whether you have scars or not depends on the technique used in surgery
Your surgeon will be the best person to determine the type of surgical technique you need, although you may have the option for one. Such preference may be because one technique (open technique) produces small but visible scars on your nose, while the other (closed technique) does not produce visible scars.
Another distinguishing feature of closed and open techniques is how the stitches used in surgery are removed. With closed techniques, you can expect your stitches to be dissolved naturally within a week. This is not the case with open techniques, where the stitches must be physically removed by your surgeon.
v. Pain Or Discomfort Is Not An Abnormal Sign
Pain and discomfort are natural events that you can expect during recovery. Fortunately, you will receive painkillers to help you overcome them. In addition, the pain or discomfort will only last for 5 to 10 days.
