The ABCs of Vitamins - A Comprehensive Vitamin Guide

Vitamins are an important organic compound for normal metabolic function. These functions include using protein to repair injured tissues and convert fats and carbohydrates into energy. They do not supply the body directly with energy or calories. Because vitamins (except Vitamin D) cannot be synthesized by our body, they must be consumed through the diet to prevent vitamin deficiency disorders.
There are 13 vitamins, which are divided into two categories: fat soluble and water soluble. Water-soluble vitamins, which include Vitamin C and B-complex groups, cannot be stored in the body.
