Tattoo Removal - Do Tattoo Fading Creams Work?

Does tattoo fade cream really get rid of cheap, safe, painless and full tattoos?

It's difficult to determine by doing a simple web search because there is so much evidence to the contrary that after a while, you feel like you're going around in circles. Infinite search later, the question was not, "Does tattoo removal cream really work?" but basically, "Who should I trust?"

One handy place to answer that question is Amazon.com. Anyone can write product reviews on Amazon, but I've found different tattoo bleaching cream reviews attract.

Reviews - when available - are excellent either. The product under review is either the best because the sliced bread or the opinion expressed is something like, "The only reason I give this product a star rating is that it has the lowest rating." or "I would not recommend this product to my worst enemy even if doing so would end the war forever." (I slander it in that way, the words are not a direct mention.) But what's really suspicious is the extent to which positive reviews have a commonality - almost as if the person who wrote them has been told that they are stressing.

Then I noticed something very strange: sponsored links paid by the "institute" that allegedly offered experts, unbiased information on all methods of tattoo removal. It's strange that a dotcom - so-called non-profit organization - would pay to advertise on Amazon.com.

This "institute" site, which is said to be led by a very reputable doctor (there is only one name given across the site, and some look like stock photos of some good looking doctors) provides its visitors with an assessment of different tattoo removal methods. Their conclusion:

The Fade Away method is the only method we know that does not stain, causes permanent changes in pigment, or cuts the skin. With this method, you do not have to worry about infection after treatment or irreversible damage to your skin. Only patience is needed.

Their recommended removal method is the fading cream, and look, the brand of faded cream they recommend above all else in the "Tattoo Removal Compare Guide," is the same brand I saw on the Amazon page.

The only reliable, unbiased third-party pain reliever trial I can find on the web is one conducted at the Philadelphia Institute of Dermatology and reported by WPVI-TV Philadelphia. Two women each use a faded tattoo on one half of the tattoo they want to remove, and have a laser treatment on the other. One of the subjects developed a rash after using the elimination cream, and was advised by the doctor to stop using it. Instead, he was able to close his wound after two laser treatments. Other subjects also had satisfactory results in the laser-treated half-wounds, but did not see the results in the other half treated with tattoo removal cream.

Conclusion:

It is difficult to provide a definitive answer as to whether or not the tattoo work is fading or not. On the other hand, there is reason to suspect that many companies that sell these types of products do not go beyond cultivating positive reviews of their products online. This shows that they are less intelligent and ethical in business. Add to that the fact that there is very little detail on their website (or anywhere else for that matter) about their cream concoction or the identity of the person who runs the company, and I have to conclude that most of these products will be for sale at risk and may be a waste of both your time and money.
