How To Prevent Stretch Marks in Pregnancy

Most women will get stretch marks in their place during pregnancy. Stretch mark or striae gravidarum is a thick, linear band found on the abdomen, lower thighs, arms, and breasts. When they first appear, they usually look like angry, red, or pink lines. Stretchmarks usually occur in recent months when women experience sudden abdominal growth spurs and changes in hormone levels that may have an effect on elasticity and strength of the skin.

Not surprisingly, the main sites for stretchmarks are the abdomen and breast, both of which are areas of expansion. There are other specific indicators for getting infected with stretch marks. This is;

• Pregnant mother during pregnancy

• family history of striae, non-white race

• Weight gain during pregnancy

• Higher maternal weight, carrying a larger baby

Preventing and Managing Stretch Signs

Most women may have the genetic disposition to stretch the mark and this is something we can do a little but there are ways to support the skin to limit its severity. Good nutrition, exercise and the use of a good moisturizer can help with stretch marks and prevent them.

Excessive Weight

Since overweight is a contributing factor to the development of stretch marks, it is important for women to maintain a healthy and fit weight during their pregnancy. The NHS recommends that women gain between 8 and 14 pounds during pregnancy depending on whether they are overweight or obese at the beginning of their pregnancy. There are also additional benefits to losing weight during diabetes - which include the development of diabetes and pre-eclampsia - both of which are high risk factors for pregnancy.

Nutrition and Exercise

Having exercise and making sure you eat the right foods during pregnancy can help you lose weight gradually and adequately for your benefit and your child's health.

Natural Skin Care Products

One way to manage or prevent acne is to use a product specifically designed for the purpose - a focus that will smooth and soften the skin and restore lost moisture. There are some wonderful ingredients used for scar reduction, moisturizing and strengthening and toning the skin. These include rosehip oil, shea butter, olive oil and incense.

Rosehip

Rosehip seed oil is high in linoleic fatty acids and linolenic fatty acids better known as Vitamin F. Rosheip oils are great for cell regeneration, a must to help prevent the body and heal stretch marks.

Shea butter

Shetter comes from the processing and extraction of oil from barley. It is a rich butter and cereal with excellent moisturizing properties and has been used for centuries by Africans for cooking and skin care. It is also good for people with dry and irritable skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis, helping protect and help heal.

Olive oil

Olive oil ontains squalane, an emmolient that resembles human sebum; Oleocanthal- non-steroid and antioxindent agents; Phenols, which are also antiinflammatory and anticoagulant and chlorophyll, are thought to help heal the skin. All help to renew and make the skin light.

Frankincense

Found in East Africa, Middle East (Oman, Yemen) and India, Frankincense oil is derived from the underlying gum. Oil is high in boswellic acid, a substance that has proven anti-inflammatory activity. There is reliable evidence that boswellic acid, when introduced to beauty products, can enhance the texture and elasticity of the skin.

When applied topically these creams can be of great benefit in keeping skin soft, moisturizing and helping with toning the skin.
