Home Staging - What Does Your Wall Color Say?

Have you ever wondered how much color is in our language? "... through a glass of roses." "... in blue," "green with envy." Color affects our language and emotions, especially color in our personal living space.

The colors (including the color of our home walls) affect our mood in many ways. And when you're preparing your home for sale, the color choices you make can greatly influence your home's slow or fast sale.

Draw your house for sale

One of the more important steps in making your home for sale is to give it a new paint. In fact, fresh interior paint is one of your main staging tools.

Fresh paint serves several purposes:

  • Paint can update obsolete color scheme.

  • Cover old scars and defecation.

  • Neutralize odors from cooking, tobacco smoke, and candles that have been absorbed into the walls.

Set the stage in color

There is a psychology to color. It has long been known that orange and yellow are food related; gray, a color choice for the interior of the office, is thought to promote focus and productivity. Earth tones (brown, green, red, and tans) are considered warm and attractive. But when it comes to home colors, what color (or color) do you choose?

Many staging and color experts recommend staying in the neutral color range for home staging and the neutral range can include lighter ranges of brown, beer, green, and blues and grays.

"White walls are everywhere!" used to be a prep-your-home-for-sale spell. But white interior can work quickly for your home. White is, in fact, one of the quintessential neutral colors but it is also a bright color. The brightness can work with effective staging so the other option is to choose between a soft white color.

Other factors that influence color choices are the design and position of your home and how natural light does not (or does not) flow through the house. The color seems to cool the room down or give it a warmer, warmer feel.

Stagers often suggest limiting bold colors to accent areas and working in neutral tones throughout the house. It achieves several goals:

  • Neutral colors provide an emotional blank canvas where shoppers can show off their own style. They allow potential buyers to easily imagine their goods in your home.

  • The neutral colors are also "acceptable" in the newly painted walls to move first and then change later, when the new homeowner is ready to make a more personalized color statement.

  • Neutral colors, especially cream colors, make the home look great in online photos (where most buyers first look when looking for their new home.

Remove yourself from the picture

As much as possible, try removing your emotions from the color choices you made for your home staging. You're moving. It's time to go into emotional neutrality and try to think as a buyer, not as a seller.

Consider entrusting your home staging with a staging specialist. She can guide you through a selection of colors that will help turn your home into the most desirable home for sale in your neighborhood.
