Can Infant Acne Lead to Teen Acne?

Do you see rash and acne on your soft skin? That should be baby acne, but don't worry, it's common for babies to get acne too. This form of acne, also called baby acne, is common in one-month-old babies. There are some cases, however, where acne is present after birth. It is temporary; However, it may recur within six months.

As in adults, baby acne is manifested by inflamed skin with small whiteheads and curling in the middle. You can usually find this on the cheeks, on the forehead and on the chin. What causes acne is still unknown to experts, although it can be triggered by skin irritation due to saliva, milk and clothing or cloths that have been washed with harsh soap and often applied to baby's face. It can also be triggered by a drug that is taken by the mother during breastfeeding or given to the baby.

Some experts claim that baby acne is caused by excess hormones that the baby receives from the mother during pregnancy. The baby may be in the process of removing the hormone from the body and the baby's acne is one of the ways in which the baby does this. Other babies may respond to this hormone in different ways and you may not be aware of it.

Baby acne is not life threatening because it is a normal baby cleansing process, so don't worry. It lasts for a few weeks and your baby's skin is again soft like that. It is manageable and in most cases, treatment is not required. But there are things you must do to prevent infections that could endanger your baby. Many parents think it is caused by dirt so they rub the baby's skin. This is not possible because it will only irritate the skin and cause it to become inflamed. You can clean it with clean water and baby soap on your baby's skin.

Also, do not treat baby acne with ointment or oil as this will worsen acne. If your baby has acne, it is best to take your baby to a pediatric or dermatologist who can recommend the right treatment. Usually doctors recommend benzoyl peroxide cream, an antibacterial drug that helps kill bacteria that exacerbates baby acne. These can be purchased at the counter.

Doctors can also prescribe medication, which your baby may need to take for a certain period of time, but this is usually given only for severe acne. In general, baby acne does not last until they say that the best solution is to be patient with it. If it doesn't make your baby too uncomfortable, it's best not to worry too much about it.
